Trend #2 - Early Stage Companies Lower Salary and Higher Equity (for Founder CTOs) The one exception to Trend #1 seems to be for Startup CTO s at earlier stage companies. I tried slicing this a few different ways, but in virtually every case the trend is clear. CTO salaries are escalating quickly.

Median valuations for early-stage valuations tripled from around $20m pre-money valuations to $60m with plenty of deals being prices above $100m. In 2009 we could take a long time to review a deal. When you look at how much median valuations were driven up in the past 5 years alone it’s bananas. discipline & focus.

Since I’m mainly doing this for my own interest and this isn’t supposed to be a scientific analysis, I’m going to instead look at the 2019 list and compare it to the 2009 list. The S&P500 was in the 700’s.
