I’m not going to talk about reforming the acquisition process, which many of your class speakers have mentioned and does need to get done. The International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, in its 2011 World Competitiveness Yearbook ranked Israel in the 17th place among the world’s 59 leading economies in terms of competitiveness. Online social networking is a concept still being evangelized even in Silicon Valley… Friendster is in private beta (wasn’t until Oct 2003 they received Google acquisition offer which they turned down for Kleiner/Benchmark round). As I was about to hit “send” on the newsletter this morning, a piece of news came through: Circle, founded by serial entrepreneur Jeremy Allaire (with two successful IPOs under his belt), announced its acquisition of crypto exchange Poloniex for a reported $400M. as well as Bittrex and Kraken, the runner-ups.

While I was in Iceland a few weeks ago, there was a set of discussions driven by Brad Burnham of Union Square Ventures about trying to make Iceland and “Internet Neutrality Zone” similar to Switzerland and banking. While I have no idea if this is feasible, the need for it seems to be increasing on a regular basis.
