Do you mean the Culinary Institute of America? On first glance it appears as if they are spending to much energy in the vertical portion of the jump, relative to the horizontal portion. If the mites were to live on both ears, the host moth couldn’t hear the bat’s sonar and the bat would eat the moth and the mites.

Accelerator programs are becoming more and more vertical and pulling together corporate and institutional support that provides investment, purchasing power, and validation. But, it’s not a town to know and gain access to corporate America if that is a key component of your business model.

A contemporary analog to this type of vertical integration is Comcast/NBC-U. When Facebook was opening up their platform, these guys thought that it was an interesting way to do user acquisition and preference acquisition of individuals and that they would be able find a way to monetize it in commerce-oriented verticals.

Corporate America could learn from this. I was about to become the first person in America to sell condom key chains. With that investment thesis thwarted, there is no way to pay expenses, primarily salary and hosting costs. We were amazed by the candor and generosity of many of the writers of these post-mortems.
