I recently wrote a post on angel financing covering the topic of convertible notes but I realized I was thinking about the issue more from investor perspective and a very narrow topic of how to price the round. This post is for those who want to raise angel money. I’ll make my next posting shorter.

From biotech and software startups to performance t-shirt and great fitting lingerie, the Campus Frontier is open to all willing to take the challenge. Its amazing how much entrepreneurial action is taking place on campus these days.

The amount of angel financing is significant. According to the Center for Venture Research at the University of New Hampshire, each year over 60,000 ventures raise over $20 billion from angel investors. Will an angel investor invest in my (insert restaurant, hotel, technology, website, product, app, salon, etc.)?

Earlier, of course, we covered AngelList at length , also a crowd sourcing venture in the angel financing space, and this week, we have covered SecondMarket , which is powering Facebook's private market capital raising. When two out of four pitches in a session are from the same category, it most certainly makes me take notice.

Great piece from Sramana Mitra highlighting two entrepreneurs that launched an educational software firm, Archipelago Learning, out of Vanderbilt. From the piece : Family suppoert allowed Vanderbilt University fraternity brothers David Muzzo and Cameron Chalmers in 2000 to cofound Study Island, an educational software company.

In a typical venture financing, there is a voting agreement that governs how specific board seats will be filled. In angel financings, I typically eliminate the voting agreement anyway and simply have a closing condition that the board consist of certain persons. Voting agreement. Drafting issues in later rounds.
