This was particularly evident at UNC-Charlotte where I was the 5th or 6th best player on the team and the guys ahead of me were far, far more talented. To put it in perspective, I had been ranked in the top 20 in Georgia before I went to college and the year I played #6 at UNC-Charlotte, the #5 guy had been ranked #4 in Canada as a junior.

I played in tournaments across Georgia and the Southeast as a teenager and then played for a Division I college on a tennis scholarship (UNC-Charlotte). I started playing tennis when I was 12 years old and from that point until I was 21, tennis was my full time passion. Part 1: Having a Common Goal.

At UNC-Charlotte, our coach Jim Boykin used to have us practice what he called “patterns&# over and over. In my final year of high school I was ranked #20 in the state of Georgia and had I played the #1 guy he would have demolished me. These were set plays that we could rely on during pressure situations.
