South by Southwest — SXSW — an annual fusion of film, interactive media, music festivals and conferences takes place in March in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1987, SXSW has grown in both scope and size.

Over the years, SXSW has become a veritable hub of knowledge sharing, innovation, and making connections through its sub-venues —

  • SXSW Interactive, a festival focused on emerging technology and serves as a nurturing ground for new ideas and creative technologies. Interactive includes a trade show, speakers, panels, parties, and a startup accelerator.
  • SXSW Edu, a conference focused on innovation within the educational sector. It includes panels, presentations, films, and speakers addressing various program tracks.

One of the best things about SXSW is that it shines light on varied perspectives of thought. It brings to the forefront unique angles of discussion and gives access to knowledge and lessons from founders and innovators.

So, if you are attending SXSW this year, and are looking for varied perspectives of thought, check out this line up of Female Founders. I’ve included a list below.

Of course, SXSW uses community input for 30% of the total score, which determines whether the proposed talk will be picked for the final program. So, we need your vote.

We need more representation from Female Founders.

We need their voices heard.

Anyone working in the startup world knows that women are not well represented in founder roles. In 2015, Crunchbase published research which showed that women make up only 10% of single-founder startups. The number rises to 36% for companies with five or more founders.

Luckily, there’s been an upward trend in not only female single-founder startups, but female founders duos, as well those who bring in larger teams.

But their voices now need to be carried to the stage, and heard by all.
