In a very recent international bribery case, Alcatel-Lucent decided to pay $137 million to settle charges that it paid millions of dollars in bribes to foreign officials to win and maintain contracts in Costa Rica, Hondurus, Taiwan and Malaysia. The days of a “slap on the wrist” for offenders are gone.

If I go back to Costa Rica I will likely be off the grid for a week or two and I won’t worry about it while I’m gone. I don’t have to check this often, but I typically have the time and I like to take care of whatever I’m able to while I’m on the road.
