Uganda has more than 10 million people without safe water to drink. The idea for the business came to Ku when she was a nineteen-year-old volunteer at a clinic in Uganda. Ku started her non-profit with $15,000 grant from Harvard and a donated piece of land in Kumi, Uganda where she built a ceramic factory to make water filters.

This past fall we did Libya, the season before that we did Uganda, and we’re going to be doing Cambodia in 2019. You not only bring employees, but you also bring along Janji customers, right? And so for instance, we’ve got some customers who heard about us when we did like our first pop up store and they fell in love with the brand.

These clinics will now be able to increase their customer base and benefit from the state-of-the-art technology infrastructure provided by MyDawa as a result of these deals. In order to go forward with its expansion goals, MyDawa recently finished the acquisition of Guardian Health, a well-known healthcare provider in Uganda.
