I’ve been having this PR discussion with three separate portfolio companies at once so I thought I’d just publish my thoughts more broadly. I have written many times about PR so if you want a deep dive on the “how” of PR you may enjoy reading some of these posts. PR pays dividends in Biz Dev.

My rationale is simple: everything goes wrong and only great teams can respond to competitors, markets, funding environments, staff departures, PR disasters and the like. It will pay huge dividends in avoiding the CEO tied up in admin and allow him / her to focus on bigger picture items. Final startup grind from msuster. identify gaps.

Understanding “The Funding Angle” I sit at enough board meetings to hear conflicting advice given to entrepreneurs about how to handle PR and announcements at startups. In stead of doing my typical big long post with 10 PR tips (like I did there), I’m going to break them up into individual (I hope more digestible) chunks.

However, for those willing to sufficiently plan ahead, keep themselves open to new finds, and that want more out of the event than simply checking in to the hot party to say that you were there, I still contend that SXSWi can offer amazing dividends. I recommend pursuing a career path that you’re reasonably sure will pay dividends, rather than placing a shaky bet on being able to beat the odds. Often young job seekers decide to pursue ‘glamorous’ jobs in fields like entertainment, TV broadcasting, high-level PR, and more. But for many others, that won’t be the case.

Except that most of the these deals end up going in the PR waste bucket. If you start to make your channel partner successful – it will pay huge dividends when your business is ready to seriously hit that “j curve&# you promised your investors. It’s a perfect love story.
