Book: Do Better Work

Feld Thoughts

Last week I met Max Yoder, the CEO of Lessonly , at the annual High Alpha CEO summit. He was the last speaker in the afternoon and ended a great day on an energized note. He handed out copies of his recent book Do Better Work: Finding Clarity, Camaraderie, and Progress in Work and Life. His talk discussed his journey around writing the book, motivation for doing it, how it is integrated into the mission of Lessonly, and why he decided to self-publish it. I read the book on the plane home.

Elizabeth Warren Doesn’t Understand Marketplaces

A Crowded Space

As everyone with access to the internet knows, Elizabeth Warren recently shared her hopes for breaking up some of the monopolistic power of so-called “platform utilities” or, as we call them, marketplaces. On one hand, I respect that Washington now realizes what Silicon Valley has known for decades: marketplaces and platforms have powerful and influential network effects. But I think Warren misunderstands these marketplaces.

How to read 52 books in a year

Jeff Hilimire

About four years ago I caught the reading bug. I had long known that reading is one of the best ways (for me) to learn, but in 2015 I really started to love reading. I began cutting some extra-curricular things out (like fantasy football) in order to make more time for reading, and the last four years looked like this: 2015: 33 books read. 2016: 37 books read. 2017: 40 books read. 2018: 52 books read. It was 2018 where I really set my mind to the goal of reading a book a week (on average.)
