3 Years and 4 Jobs

Austin Startup

Let’s be real… I was raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia and I had a privileged upbringing. I went to private school and played on club sports teams. The people around me were very white and very conservative. My dad is Iranian, and I grew up thinking that was something I should be ashamed of because of the ignorant behavior I encountered. I remember cringing when my peers would ask me which college football team my dad preferred.

How The Anchoring Effect in Marketing Can Help Your Business Grow Faster Or Fail

crowdSPRING Blog

Marketers, entrepreneurs, and business owners assume that most people make decisions by conducting research and then weighing the options. But, that’s not how most people make decisions. People frequently act illogically, making their behavior difficult to predict. And, they rarely take the time to learn the full facts before taking action. Instead, people tend to unconsciously latch onto the first fact they hear, basing their decision-making on that fact… whether it’s accurate

Ping Pong is Not Just For Silicon Valley Startups

The Startup Magazine

The number is on the rise; companies adapting play in the office are skyrocketing. This is in the strong footsteps of Silicon Valley companies which have demonstrated high productivity using such distractions as colorful offices with toys, escape rooms and other playthings. But the approach has not been acceptable to all. Many companies are still skeptical about following this route and tend to lean against office toys.

Me! On the Digiday Podcast (Transcript & Link)

Hunter Walker

Brian Morrissey is EIC of Digiday and we met online. That’s less of a confession and more an admission that I was surprised to be invited on to his podcast, given that they usually focus on the people actually doing the work in media, advertising and commerce. Maybe he was just being nice because I interviewed him on my blog earlier this year.

What two words are most valuable for your business planning?

Berkonomics

One of the most valuable tools in an executive’s arsenal is the use of the question chain in planning meetings or to analyze scenarios that might result from an action. The powerful words are “What if…” followed by an ever-deeper question that follows the possible results of an action, or a decision based upon the last “What if” question. The beauty of the method.

Summer jobs are something all students and freshers shall look forward to. Why so? Summer is arguably the best time of the year. The beautiful weather inspires us all to get out there and go for it. Vacations, weekend getaways, and camping offer opportunities to revive burned out willpower. The vitamin D is in full swing. We all enjoy it in our own way, but there's something we can agree on: summer sales are an excellent opportunity to siege the advantage.

How To Build Trust With Your Customers

YoungUpstarts

When it comes to business, trust might well be the single most important element of growth. Without trust, sales will be slow – even non-existent. Without trust, people just won’t want to commit to buying anything from you, and that is a big problem when you are trying to make money. A business relationship needs to work both ways, and that means that as a business owner you need to create trust in your branding and your business if you want to be more successful.

Why utilities need to be back in public hands

Start Up Blog

After 30 years of infrastructure privatisation in Australia, it’s time we put critical utilities (Energy, Water, Telecoms, Rail, et al) back in the hands of the public. While this may sound somewhat draconian and even semi-communist, right now it is the most capitalist move we could make, and our future depends on it. I spoke about it today on radio – you can listen here.

Kodorra

In my past 14 year journey as an online entrepreneur, I went through mistakes that I can’t help to notice that others also tend to make when they just started. I had mentored some startups and dozens of teams in hackathons and from my standpoint, most of them always tend to fall into a similar mindset (including me) when they started. Here’re my takes on what makes us our own worst enemies when it comes to starting up our first online business.

Book #29: On to Chicago

Jeff Hilimire

My goal in 2018 is to read 52 books. Here is a list of all the books I’ve read so far this year. Each book is ranked on a 5-star scale (5 is best). ** On to Chicago: Rediscovering Robert F. Kennedy and the Lost Campaign of 1968. No. Just, no. Ok, to be fair, the first 75% of this book was fairly interesting. The author supposes what might have happened if Bobby Kennedy would not have been assassinated, instead surviving the shooting and continuing to run for President.
