I was a founder and former CEO of Mustang Engineering, and from 2005 through 2014, Mustang opened several international offices. Within the next few years, Mustang added offices in Melbourne and Perth, Australia; Mumbai, India; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Bogota, Colombia; Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia; and Norway.

David : If I’m the train, then Maha is the engine. Maha and I worked out that we actually lived in Saudi Arabia for two years in the 80’s as children – at exactly the same time. There is no one better at making sure that we stay on target in terms of strategy. I don’t know if that’s interesting, but it is a fact!

During the Cold War with the Soviet Union, science and engineering at both Stanford and U.C. Starting in the 1950’s, Stanford’s engineering department became “outward facing” and developed a culture of spinouts and active faculty support and participation in the first wave of Silicon Valley startups. Clearly, lean works globally.

Automated drilling means that fewer engineers are needed to achieve the same results and may lower the cost of drilling once the expensive equipment is paid for. Cyberattacks, sabotage, and terrorism can affect oil and gas production, as has recently been seen in Saudi Arabia.
