Should you hire an investment banker? The good news: even if you are a small company and can’t afford a banker, you can synthetically and cheaply replicate a banker. That’s part of the value proposition of an institutional VC; I have been the (unpaid) investment banker for many of my portfolio companies. .

You charge your limited partners this, but you have to pay it back before you start taking a cut of the profits. That means I have a total budget of a little over $200,000 to run the entire operations of Brooklyn Bridge Ventures. If I was optimizing for cash, I would have been an investment banker a long time ago.
