An updated list of Israeli startup landscape maps across categories

Readers of VC Cafe know that I collect and curate Israeli startup landscape maps. You can find previous editions in the achives. July 2020, May 2019. This latest batch includes new maps for Insurance tech, Industry 4.0, Deep Tech, Passion Tech and Proptech, as well as updated landscapes for cyber security tech and retail tech. Hope you find it as interesting as I do.

Digital Health

Vertex ventures published a great landscape on the digital health sector in Israel. The map highlights ~100 companies that are either leading the market or that we considered as rising stars.

InsurTech

Israel has already produced three Insurance Tech Unicorns including Lemonade, Hippo Insurance and Next Insurance. There are over 88 Israeli insurtech startups vying to be the next in line. The map, created by InsurTech Israel and The Digital Insurer shines a spotlight on the sector in Israel.

Paissionware (B2SMB)

In March 2021, Israeli venture capital fund Benson Oak introduced a “passionware” as a new category of software tools and platforms? enabling anyone to be an entrepreneur, run a business to earn a living and, at the same time, fulfil one’s passions. We wrote a lot about the creator economy here on VC Cafe, which fits nicely with this “passion” segment and is also one of our areas of focus at Remagine Ventures.

Energy Tech

There are more than 100 Israeli startups in the energy tech space. Ignite the spark is a community of over 1,000 individuals in the energytech ecosystem in Israel with a focus on:

  • Renewable and conventional energy sources
  • Methods for storing energy
  • Energy Efficiency & smart loads
  • Cutting edges electrical Infrastructure and more.

Cybersecurity Tech

Not a quarter goes by without an updated Israeli cyber tech landscape. The latest edition from March 2021, comes from Glilot Capital Partners in collaboration with IVC. The map showcases over 120 startups across 14 different areas of focus, including endpoint security, cloud security, threat intelligence, identity and access management, network security, zero-trust and more. The Israeli cybersecurity sector has shown 70% growth in 2020 over the previous year, due to the need for increased data security as a result of a growing attack surface.

Retail Tech

Deloitte Israel has updated their annual retail tech Israeli startup landscape with over 100 prominent startups across various categories. Covid caused a dramatic shift to online commerce, but the physical sector was significantly affected by lockdowns.

Industry 4.0

The latest Israel Industry 4.0 ecosystem map 2021 by LetLab includes over 218 startups in this space across categories such as Robotics & Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Energy, AR/VR, IIOT, Additive Manufacturing and Sensors. The Industry 4.0 sector in Israel is touted to grow more than 20% each year over 2020-2025

Israel PropTech and Construction Tech

The latest Proptech and ConTech map published in Sep 2020, includes over 200 startups and is segmented based on the stages of the building/infrastructure lifecycle. Proptech Zone lists some of the most prominent Israeli startups in the space.

Israeli Unicorns

Israel added a number of new unicorns in 2021 and this map needs to be updated on a regular basis to reflect the new rounds in Israeli growth companies. Take Wiz for example, that grew to $1.7 billion valuation just one year from funding, or Israeli founded Deel, that recently raised $156M series C at a $1.25 billion valuation and is one of the fastest growing Israeli founded startups to reach unicorn status.
