Minneapolis, Minnesota: Cars line up at a drive-thru food pantry. The model was simple: we’d build a SMS texting tool that matched the food insecure with a free meal from a partner restaurant, all covered by donor dollars. We could build a technical backend that matched food insecure individuals with partner restaurants.

Before the pandemic hit, Minnesota brand TC Running had two brick-and-mortar stores and zero ecommerce presence. As we began to experiment with ways to keep that connection alive we knew one thing — we had to find somewhere local that we could partner with, to still offer curbside pickup. That’s where Parkdale Pet Foods came in.

That is true now. Since we opened our doors, Target has operated with love and opportunity for all.

When I was there in October 2012 with my partners Ryan and Jason to run the Detroit Marathon we talked about the idea of getting more involved there in some way. My partners and I believe that Detroit hit rock bottom around 2012 and in a decade has the potential to be an amazing city once again. I’m fascinated with Detroit.

Don then recruited Karl Smith from the University of Minnesota to pilot a class of 9 teams made up of STEM educators. Karl recruited a teaching team (Ann McKenna, Chris Swan, Russ Korte, Shawn Jordan, Micah Lande and Bob MacNeal) and Jerry Engel trained them. A transition plan to move the effort forward and bring the innovation to scale.
