The biggest strategic mistake Silicon Valley and TechCrunch, Forbes, New York Times attempting to portray tech innovation as a white guy thing was failing to recognize technology only goes as far as the adopting ecosystem. You need a community and ecosystem that adopts and use your tech.

No need to even tell the search engine what format your data is in; it automatically recognizes popular file formats like PDF, HTML, XML, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc. Just point to the relevant directories and the like that you want to index, and the application will do the rest.

We repurposed that field to optionally include some XML describing an on-screen dialog box. A new feature would often be first "implemented" by a dialog box shown to a few percent of the userbase. That meant we could notify some percentage of customers of something at any time, which was great for split-testing.
