Social networks. They became popular for socializing, but now are prime sources of business networking, customer service, and client leads. Wikis are used to create collaborative websites on a given subject, maintain corporate intranets, and build simple data bases. Blogs composed of video clips are called “vlogs.”

Connect on social media. Add a QR code to your contact information, and you can make it easy for people to automatically connect with you on social networks. Send students on an assignment in the library, asking them to go on a treasure hunt for QR codes hidden in the library, following clues through wikis and webpages.

Obviously it is build on a social network “follow people&# model that is asymmetric like Twitter. It also feels very wiki like. So in a way it has built in game mechanics. And they are trying to bake in user adoption into the design of the product. I saw some questions where the tags looked wrong.

Consider how firms today confront Web 2.0 – the combination of blogs, wikis, and social networking technologies sprouting up. I must admit that I have seen way too many social networking related plays that want to be the next MySpace of some niche market. In addition, who wants to sign up for multiple social networking platforms like MySpace, Facebook, and niche sites for politics, sports, etc. One of my favorite sites is Cellartracker.
