How To Choose Your Favorite Beatle?
“My son recently passed a developmental milestone that is not mentioned in any parenting magazine I know of and yet is, I believe, one of the major choices he will make in the course of his life. He has chosen his first Beatle. I’m speaking of the British pop foursome, of course…and my anxiousness over his Beatle choice peaked as the latest round of Beatlemania came and went, because the Beatle you pick can say as much about you as your DNA does.”—
Robert Sullivan, I Wanna Be Your Man, from a 1996 article in the New Yorker (I wish the whole thing was online).
I clipped this out of the New Yorker in 1996 and it’s been on my night stand ever since. It’s time for my kids to make their choices, and I too am nervous.
I personally think this whole choosing your favorite Beatle thing is getting overly complicated. While I agree that your choice has a lot to say about you as a person, I believe there is a better way to help the undecided choose. Thus, I have endeavored mightily to create the following flowchart that I believe will most definitely ease the path for people to make such a overwhelming and critical life decision.
