METAL MONDAY: Don’t Close Your Eyes by Kix - Last week, I posted a cover song by a Baltimore band which got me thinking of other rock bands out of the Charm City. Well, lo and behold, the pickings are pretty slim. By far the biggest rock act is the hard rock band Kix. While lumped into the hair metal set of the late 80’s, they had actually been together since the late 70’’s, had some popularity, and were known for their loyal following and solid live performances.
They will unfortunately go down as a one hit wonder though. Don’t Close Your Eyes was by far their biggest hit off their best selling album Blow My Fuse. With heavy MTV rotation, the song rocketed up the charts in 1989. After that, the band seemed to fade from popularity. That being said, it was a good ballad that managed to tastefully deal with the topic of suicide.
