Remake NYC, one app at a time

One huge inefficiency in the world of entrepreneurship that I see is that the people who are good at identifying problems aren't always the best people at building solutions.  That's why NYC is such an interesting innovation ecosystem to me--because there's so much cross polination.

Each year, NYC releases a bunch of data in hopes that hackers will build new apps that change the way we live in the Big Apple.  The results are interesting, but sometimes I feel like the average iOS developer might not be in touch with the needs of a typical New Yorker--and so you wind up with a "What can I do with this data?" approach versus a more organic process where problems are identified by the local community.

To solve that, the NYC BigApps Competition has released an "Ideas" submission process where you can help identify problems to solve even if you don't plan on building an app.  Check it out here:  http://ideas.nycbigapps.com

Please share this with as many people as you can--especially people who aren't in tech.  Send it to parents groups, your running team, college alumni.   We need all the good ideas we can if we're going to make apps that have a big impact on the city.
