The #1 use of the Apple Watch for me, and it’s not what you think

I’ve started wearing the Apple Watch again. I’ve never had a piece of technology that I use for long periods of time, then I don’t use for long periods of time, and I’m good either way. I kind of like having it on the during the day, but mostly just to quickly check the time. I enjoy driving and having it alert me when I need to make a turn (though that’s only when I use Apple Maps, which I only do when I quickly need to click on an address in my calendar and start driving…otherwise it’s Waze for me.)

Of all the benefits of wearing a smart watch, the reason I have been wearing it again is so that I don’t wake my wife up in the mornings. Huh?

That’s right, for me the killer feature of the Apple Watch (or really, any smart watch) is that I can wear it to sleep and it will vibrate on my wrist to wake me up. Since I get up very early, any alarm (or even my phone vibrating on the bedside table) will wake her up. But wearing the watch allows me to silently wake up and sneak out of bed. Plus, it’s a more gentle way to wake up for sure.

So yeah, I’m sure that’s what Apple was thinking when they created the watch, “Finally, a way for someone to wake up in the morning without disturbing their spouse!”

So I’m exactly the same way with mine on this part “…(though that’s only when I use Apple Maps, which I only do when I quickly need to click on an address in my calendar and start driving…otherwise it’s Waze for me.)”

It’s why I give Waze only 4 stars. They seriously need to add the turning thing to the watch, it’s IMMENSELY helpful.

I find the watch pretty useful for letting me use the phone LESS. It lets me decide if I even want to get it out of my pocket to respond to that Text/Slack/Messenger message and do quick replies if I need to.

When do your charge your watch though if not at night?

This. I am going to get mine in a couple of weeks, but during my lengthy trial of it, I found that I needed to charge it at night in order to use it all day. Now that I am getting up with an alarm again, that feature is really high on my list.

Thorin, what I do is, when I get home from work I stick it on the charger, then when I go to sleep I grab it and put it on my wrist. By morning it still has 91% left, so I stick it on the charger while getting ready and it’s fully charged by the time I leave.

Yeah, that’s what I assumed. I was charging at night so I could capture all of my steps during the day. #fatboyproblems

Ahh! That’s what I need to do!

    Great advice.
