In 1998, SourceGear was looking to hire a full-time person in technical support. The very worst kind of manager is the one who feels threatened by his team. It really is true that the best coders are gifted with an aptitude. They are perhaps ten times more productive than average coders. We interviewed several candidates.

In a previous post I mentioned an interview I had at Netscape in 1998. One manager talked about how they were a bit bummed because Yahoo had just surpassed their market valuation. Nobody seemed excited about open-sourcing the code, the original people were leaving, the coder gurus projected strange attitudes to a lowly candidate.
