Howard Morgan earned a PhD in Operations Research/Computer Science in 1968. In the early 80’s he left academia to work on venture capital investing with Jim Simons, Renaissance Technologies. Infonautics went public in 1996 and Half.com was sold to eBay in 2000. and Half.com. They follow on when milestones are met.
