In the few days I was in China I met with several VC’s, angel investors, business press and spoke to hundreds of entrepreneurs. While a flood of new VCs came into existence during the late 90’s internet boom, many had difficulty raising new funds after the crashes of 2000-2001 and 2008 , and as a result significantly fewer fund managers exist now compared to a decade ago. note: apologies in advance for the west coast bias; i’m in silicon valley).

My view is that it’s time to harness the incredible enthusiasm and talent of these individuals to drive impact, locally in NYC as well as nationally and globally. Make no mistake: NYC has arrived solidly as major global tech hub. Founded in 2004, it has grown in leaps and bounds along with NYC’s tech sector.
