In my first company, people liked our product but were embarrassed to share it because the design and presentation was so poor.

It was fall 2004, and the presidential election was in full swing. I too would be concerned about false negatives, but perhaps this strategy could be integrated into a broader market research strategy that included user engagement, viral marketing, etc which would all be quantifiable under the Google analytics.
