By day he works on web and social media for HP. I plotted the growth in capacity of magnetic platter hard drives and flash drives back in 2006 or so, and saw that flash would overtake magnetic media in 2016. Apocalypse , near-term science-fiction novels about realistic ways strong AI might emerge.

I sought to mimic his propensity to leverage social media. In late 2006, Zayo was a pure start-up headquartered behind Nick and Willy’s on 8th and Pearl. In June of 2006, we sold what remained of ICG Communications to Level 3. I was drawn to his unique ability to promote ideas, create awareness, and fuel momentum.

When David first talked to me about his idea for TechStars in 2006, if you had asked me if we’d have Boulder, Boston, Seattle, and NY programs up and running by 2010 I would have chuckled (a real chuckle, not my evil laugh chuckle.) The Seattle program is crushing it already and I’m excited to go spend time up there.

In particular, some media and naysayers are emphasizing the wrong lessons to be learned from this incident. They take downtime seriously and given the volume of usage and the amount of time they have been running it (since 2006), it is not surprising that they would eventually have a major outage of some sort.
