In April 2008, I was introduced to Ugmode, Inc. While Zappos was doing diligence on Modista, the issue was brought up that one of other companies in this space — Like.com , founded by Munjal Shah — had filed for some IP in this area. The lawsuit completely killed the financing prospects for Ugmode.

I have to admit, the light bulb didn’t go off for me until I was negotiating term sheets. Snapvine was my first experience being in the driver’s seat of the fund-raising process, and in the 3 years prior to our acquisition we raised over $10mm in venture capital. That’s a nice way of putting it.
