If someone had been there and just told me “join a great founding team, focus on the product, and forget everything else,” I would have saved a lot of time and heartache. Sure you don’t have to take VC money to build out a product.

Other cities like New York, Boston, Seattle, LA and Austin TX also have pretty strong startup communities. In my case, I grew up in Connecticut and spent a fair amount of time in New York – all the while trying to start companies, relatively unsuccessfully. But at the end of the day, it is about a product being accepted.
