Almost certainly youll be needing to do some DOM manipulation stuff and Ajax and thats what jQuery slays at. It’s probably because Webforms was essentially designed to cater to Desktop Application developers.

Exactly who this is implemented is up to the developer, since they might have better ways then having a normal button, in my experience many customers have a hard time visualizing this and therefore end up with a very strict and old fashion description when modern technology such as ajax could make that extra button unnecessary.
