However, my two initial co-founders were not technical and couldn’t contribute significantly during the initial year plus of development. This resulted in a recapitilization of the equity away from 33% each (in my favor) and then the ultimate dismissal of one of the co-founders prior to the A-round.

Sean and Shawn from Napster met in an IRC channel. In later posts I’ll get more specific on how to figure out if the folks you’re meeting are the right people to work with, and also how to deal with issues like splitting equity and paying yourselves before raising funding.
