Several years ago on a Saturday I found myself at Bank of America Corporate Center in Charlotte. I was attending the second National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Awards for Aspirations in Computing event. As I entered the ballroom for the event, I encountered 32 young high school women and their parents.

The fundamental lesson we need to learn from our history is not that we should halt or reverse innovation, but rather that we need to evolve new technology and its interface with society. We need to collectively debate and then decide how the concepts of free speech and dialogue should evolve and adapt to new technologies like social media.
