I could download mp3 music for free from Napster, but most of the software I wanted was not open source yet and had to be purchased. The only way to get free software was to apply for beta programs, which were not open to the public back then and usually required that you sign an Non-Disclosure Agreement.

Oh and by the way, typically angel investors don’t sign NDA (non-disclosure agreement), so they are most probably losing out on the cash too. You just a domain name, a web hosting account and online software, which could be free, thanks to open source. But these companies are the best in their markets.

Nothing essential that I disagree with you in your post, but when read by other people with minimal software engineering experience, they can have too high expectations. Would love to hear your insights sometime into how to partner with engineers. Find a senior engineer, take them out to lunch, pick their brain. Take good notes!
