Theyre not entirely without use or benefit, but like Lisp, Flash or Silverlight, theyre often not the best choice. Theres nothing inherently wrong with Flash or Silverlight, but most often their use should be considered only for incremental interface enhancements to a system built on an establish web framework. We repurposed that field to optionally include some XML describing an on-screen dialog box. We eventually embedded the Flash interpreter into our process, so we could experiment with our UI more quickly. That meant we could notify some percentage of customers of something at any time, which was great for split-testing.

Do you “entrepreneurs” really think a guy or gal that can compile Linux on a bicycle wants to write a secure payment processor on an iPhone, or a Flash app that runs on every browser? You got two out of three right when you said.NET and Java are limiting, but you left out XML (still mostly a solution still looking for a problem).
