Since I wrote that post, millions more entrepreneurs have launched their businesses globally. Thanks to the Web and mobile connectivity, more and more people have access to online resources for education and information – the combination of on-the-ground expertise and this access to global information is creating a revolution.

This was the year that the promise of technology to truly change the world and empower individuals (the reason I entered the tech world in 1994) reached global scale. In India, two female journalists launched a mobile app to allow women to report harrassment and abuse, an issue in their hometown of Delhi and throughout the world.

The company, run by veterans from the payments space, is building the world’s first global peer-to-peer teller network. When I first met with founder Bill Barhydt and he described the vision, I immediately thought of M-Pesa, the mobile money network in Kenya. Truly making money mobile. Disrupting the disrupter.
