The venture firm was funded by Laurance Rockefeller and Lazard Freres, but after some dispute lost to the sands of time, Rockefeller pulled his financing, and the firm was dissolved after the first fund. The first limited partnership that lasted for a while was formed by Davis and Rock in 1961.
