According to the Center for Venture Research, The Angel Investor Market in 2010 was about $20 billion and funded about 60,000 companies, with about one-third of that capital committed to seed/startup stage companies. Total angel funding in 2010 was up somewhat, but has ranged from $15 to $20 billion for several years.

A great recent example of this was a successful group of entrepreneurs who had created a company that will do $10-12 million in revenue at their system integration business (read: services business) in 2011 after having done $5 million or so in 2010 and $2-3 million in 2009.

In a typical venture financing, there is a voting agreement that governs how specific board seats will be filled. In angel financings, I typically eliminate the voting agreement anyway and simply have a closing condition that the board consist of certain persons. The Series Seed documents were released in March 2010.
