If the idea was reliant on ad revenue for profit, it quickly becomes apparent that there will be no incoming money at all. Research the cost of advertising your product. Do an initial financial projection based on competitors’ prices, your development costs, and the advertising costs to see if your product is financially viable.

Vendor long-list - build a “long-list&# of possible software vendors and NDA them all, but don‚Äôt rely on it (more on this later). You dont /have/ to build vendor lists and out-source. No salaries, at first, but we did a lot ourselves and then did a lot as trade and/or on an advertising basis.

The market price is less than the inconvenience of signing an NDA. But this is just the kindthat tends to be open source: operating systems, programminglanguages, editors, and so on. In those days you could go public as adogfood portal, so as a company with a real product and real revenues,we might have done well.
