The original two founders were soon joined by Cisco, Mashable, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), Sony, Aldo, Groupon, UNICEF, Google, Skype, Microsoft and Unilever, which became additional founding members. People are receiving emails, postcards and social media ads from lots of nonprofits in the weeks around Thanksgiving.

We live in a social media universe now and all of them, particularly in the NBA, have very large platforms. And the good news is they're social media babies, right? ER : A lot of folks I've been talking to about this, they're not accustomed to asking the government to help and it feels a little weird. It just is what it is.

I’d start by trying to follow them on social media to get to know them a bit, and then reach out with a relevant intro request through LinkedIn. Alex has helped bring more than $160 million in funding to Texas startups through SBIR, STTR and other government funding programs for companies like Essentium, ICON 3D, and LIFT Aircraft.

But a half-century ago, the country started to disconnect from each other and our government when we eliminated national service. The unintended consequence of this decoupling is seemingly perpetual wars (we’ve been in Afghanistan for two decades). Few of my students knew what the DoD or other branches of government did.
