However, Boston is a transient town, especially for the student population that refreshes a large population each year.

A few years ago, a friend of mine who was coming off an EIR gig at a well-known venture fund in Boston ended up joining one of my portfolio companies part-time as a technical advisor / interim CTO. In either case, sometimes solving other people’s problems (as a team member, advisor, angel investor, etc.)

For example, one angel investor reportedly invested in several hundred social networking ventures employing this philosophy. That being said, I do see problems with the conventional wisdom especially in the valley with your technical vision, which then creates economic problems. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Think of Werner Vogels (CTO of Amazon), Guido van Rossem (founder of Python programming language and senior engineer at Dropbox) or the more senior Gerard Kleisterlee (chairman of Vodafone). Think of Stanford and Sandhill road in Silicon Valley, Route 128 in Boston or IIT in Bangalore India. So we have plenty of economic clustering.
