A few years ago it became fashionable for large VC’s to do seed funding. With open source software (LAMP stack) and cloud computing infrastructure it just wasn’t that expensive to get your company going and founders just wanted to raise less money. What gives? Am I a hypocrite?

But this is just the kindthat tends to be open source: operating systems, programminglanguages, editors, and so on. So if youre developing technologyfor money, youre probably not going to be developing it for peoplelike you. Usually you get seed money from individual rich people called"angels."

So what ends up happening is great programmers are led sheepishly into the arms of suggestive Angel Investors, VC’s or mentor hybrids like yourself who guide the product into what they’d like to see. For both companies, the initial traction enabled raising seed money to get them to a traditional VC investment.)
