So what does CTO mean, besides just "technical founder who really cant manage anyone?" So I initially gravitated to the CTO title, and not VP of Engineering.

When Open Source software projects are launched, the progenitors often start a for-profit sister company to garner some income from training, support and consulting. They kind of invented this business model. Google has optimized this open source to freemium model in almost all of its products.

But as any programmer will tell you (I’m one), any lucrative contract or full time job you can get, especially these days, will usually leave you so burnt out by the end of the day that the last thing you will want to do is sit down and bang out more code. The programmer will probably not understand your business model, and therefore cant help you point out anything that doesnt make sense in the requirements. I also know someone else who consulted me about his website idea. Well as a programmer of many websites I find that it is easier for my clients to consult my ideas first.
