Most people are going to hear about the site for the very first time via an organic notification, when a friend signs up for the site (or tags them in a photo, etc). If youre emitting HTML, as 99% of all PHP apps are, its just so damn convenient to throw in PHP tags along with your layout tags, all inline on the page. PHP encourages one of the worst programming heresies of all: intermixing code and presentation logic in a giant mish-mash. In most cases, simple changes are simple to make.

It is a mystery actually whether the tagging of application as hot/popular has to do with the number of downloads or merely from the usage statistic. If the rating in the App Store is based on usage, I am sure those popular social networking applications are sure to be in the top and the hot seat always. However, this is not the case.
