There seem to be two schools of thought on how to predict the future of information technology: looking at software or looking at hardware. It was difficult because we had limited bandwidth to send the bits through, and limited processing power to compress and decompress the video. I’m going to start by going back to 1994.

Have you ever felt as though your eyeballs are being assaulted by flashing lights, too-bright colors or design elements and graphics that practically jump off the screen? Also, if the user doesn’t have a Flash plugin, then he either can’t view that portion of the site or has to enable or install the plugin before he can proceed.

At NextView we talk about “ubiquitous computing” because we think it captures the broader technology adoption more accurately, and FWIW we’re incredibly bullish. As household bandwidths have increased, we’ve got options that end-run cable companies to get content on the screen: Apple TV, Roku/Hulu, Tivo, network-enabled DVD players, game consoles, etc. And adding Flash makes it even more compelling).
