In Silicon Valley the equivalent is the journeyman coder or web designer who loves the technology, and takes coding and U/I jobs because it’s a passion.

I was the typical university graduate who “knew his s**t” about Business Administration, which is not very useful in a startup. I couldn’t write a single line of code, and I didn’t have any clue how to start a business. They told me it was impossible to pick up coding. Learn to code. You’re not alone.

I mean, our people invented so much and accomplished so much throughout American history from post-slavery to modern times but somehow, we black people cannot write lines of code, really? of all software utility patents to inert status. Code is Law Garbage. Trustless is Not a Human Nature.

It is right that Google and Facebook pride themselves on being engineering organizations (note - so did Microsoft). But in the world following Jonathan Ive, designers are finally getting their due. It is interesting to see the emphasis that both Twitter and Quora have put on product design, not just engineering.
