The point of an engineering interview is to figure out if you want to hire a person or not. This is because hiring the wrong person could be extremely damaging to a company. Not hiring anyone is also extremely damaging. Java, Ruby, Python and C will be available. For a startup especially, not taking risks means dying.

Then last year I decided to re-educate myself in software development, but this time as a regular ol’ coder. Sure you have Ruby, Python, many others, but PHP is winning because it’s so accessible to newbies, and it manipulates the server side continuously, allowing e-commerce, social, geolocation and other apps.

I found the group of Ruby enthusiasts in SFRuby to be quite active and social. I volunteered as a teaching assistant in Sarahs very first class teaching Ruby and the two of us became good friends. Eventually I was able to scrape up a few bucks and hired Sarah to build me a website prototype. Hes right on so many levels.

Sure, it garners the "winning " reply above, but in reality I find the answers below by Cody Riddar that directs the asker to go hire an inexpensive prototype development team much more helpful than the "leading answer" that gives the "Quora rockstar engineer" point of view. You, a creative guy?
