He grew up in Colombia, South America. And my specialty was computer networks. By the way, this was still pre-Netscape, pre-Internet. So I joined this group called Network Solutions, we did computer networking, the predecessor to the internet. I grew up in Northern California. It was all technical.

My dad was an immigrant from Colombia. So you need to build a network even outside of your company. It was 1999 and I had valuable Internet skills. After just 4 years I become managing partner of what is now the largest venture capital fund in Los Angeles. They say it’s not who you know as much as what you know.
