I was lucky to sign on as advisor and investor the founder of a very high-profile consumer Internet site who happens to also be a former engineer, who I will call Richard. In my role as a CTO, Ive always tried to choose the right tool for the right job. Good article, this is exactly the reason Im still primarily a PHP developer rather than Ruby or Python. There are a lot of C and C++ programmers out there who have had to move to web based development and Python and Ruby are not C.

Had I known it was going to take the internet by storm I probably would have been a bit more careful with my word choice (especially referring to.NET as a language, doh!). My example: I have mainly programmed _by choice_ in Python, Ruby, Scala, Haskell, C# and currently I’m doing Java. March 25, 2011 at 1:41 pm. Matt Sherman.
