Shame about not getting it in legal writing that you owned the original IP. Forget to get around to setting up that Employee Stock Option Plan and want to be able to give the early guys their options at a low strike price? I find that one of my best sources of deal flow is from lawyers. Disclosure: he’s my cousin.

The firm attracts deal flow by promising a decision (positive or negative) in under 2 weeks, with minimal paperwork and without repeating due diligence. Another example is Correlation Ventures ($300M+ AUM), a VC firm which co-invests in financings with at least one other new outside VC. Previously posted on PEHub.

Building out your own network of other Angel or Seed investors increases the quality of your deal flow. However, if a company is not going so well is there any way you can help engineer an acquihire or potentially sell off some of the company’s IP on the way out. In addition to that very few startups only raise once.

It would be helpful to get a California standard employee manual, employee contract/agreements, IP ownership release to company, and confidentiality. it is acquired) and (b) the employee is terminated without cause (or sometimes resigns for good reason). They are word docs so the.doc extension should work. This is great!

He’ll usually go first because oftentimes he receives a deal flow through a friend who’s already committed. Co-founders/employees (0:43:47) : Pick a co-founder who is better than you and pick employees who are better than you. Take your time and be picky because getting the right person is always better in the long run.
