So taking the same fund raising round and assuming that the VC wants the options including before he or she funds (and before is totally standard) then the math works like this: Assuming a 15% option pool post funding then you need a 20% option pool pre funding (because the pool gets diluted by 25% also when the VC invests their money).

Redemption Rights What Are Redemption Rights? A redemption right is another feature of preferred stock and permits the investors to require the company to repurchase their shares after a specified period of time; it is, in effect, a “put” right – that is, the investors may elect to put their shares back to the company.

Redemption rights? Founders don’t often think about “primary&# stock vs, “fully diluted&# stock in terms of voting rights. Only later did I learn how it could be used to screw me. Sounds harmless enough.
