And I remind them that they should be bringing some type of domain expertise (technical or business) to the table. This is the minimum feature set for founders. In their quest for sustainable growth, the elusive dream for most first time founders is that first funding. This can either come from the founder(s) own bank account or from outside investors. At this stage you’re essentially selling yourself and your cofounders. One of the easiest mistake to fix is timing.

It was all technical. You know, the weird thing, Derek, and I should probably let you speak some time, but I was deeply technical when I went into Andersen consulting, and I got paid much less than engineers who graduated, because I had a degree in economics. So it was from ’91 to ’94 that I programmed.

The funny part is that I didn’t realize Eventbrite had male cofounders since Women 2.0 always spotlighted Julie Hartz, cofounder and wife of Kevin. I liked hearing the who’s who of Silicon Valley in his stories, but more importantly he had really good take aways. Keep a watch out!
